San Francisco: BART & art (and weed)
“San Francisco is 49 square miles surrounded by reality.”
~ Paul Kantner
I’ve had the same kind of flurry confusion state here in San Francisco that I had when I arrived in New York, (I might have been a bit jet lagged in the beginning). I’ve just been wandering about taking pictures of stuff and enjoying the sites. My friend Priscilla lives in Berkeley, about 20 minutes on the BART (metro) away from San Francisco (the city itself), but it’s really easy to get to.
I decided to check out Fisherman’s Wharf on my second day here so I got off at Embarcadero (BART) and walked along the piers, starting at the old Ferry Building. The Ferry Building is a landmark worth a visit, such beautiful architecture and some extremely cool markets going on inside on any given day. Everything from organic chocolate to pig-shaped oven mittens, it was fantastic. The upper levels hold offices so you’re not allowed to venture too far in (there’s a guard on duty who checks people… seriously…) but I was allowed to look around and take pictures of the building up to a certain level.
You could spend a whole day here just taking in the sights, there’s activity centers, statues, piers that let you gaze off to both bridges, the aquarium, shops, markets and everything you could possibly need with regards to food and drink. Obviously some of the spots are incredibly touristy, like pier 39 where the sea lions are. Hard Rock Cafe and the “Bubba/Gump Shrimp Shack” is here, along with every beach bag imaginable for you to buy at the low cost of 24 dollars (buy one, get one 50 % off!!11)
I spent way too much money in HRC, bought a burger at In-N-Out Burger and just generally snapped away with my camera. Unfortunately nothing dramatic happened so this is a really boring post that’s gonna lose me 300 followers 😛
Bottom line though, come to San Francisco. It’s laid back, warmer than Norway (allthough after Miami, I must admit, not too warm here…) and perpetually smells of weed… If you like that kind of stuff. I feel like I’m right back at campus in Wolverhampton rooming on the same floor as Abo (yes, really, that was his name) and his friends who “didn’t smoke inside” 😛
